UL 643 Class 2 High Security Switches are easily defeatable by Trivial means, contrary to all representatons. Both the Alarm Circuit and the Tamper Circuit on the Potter HSS P2S-000 are shown secure with a prototype Defeat Key. The Potter HSS P2S-000 high security
switch has an operational gap of 0.0 inches to roughly
0.2 inches from the switch face. The installation instructions specify a working gap of 0.0625 inches. This is difficult to achieve and may be much wider in practice. The Defeat Key presumes a minimum of 0.0625 inches. The Defeat
Key front piece fits into this space as shown above and makes the switch think it sees the actuator
magnet in the secure position. The Defeat Key will not function, if reversed. Note that neither of the "Tamper" switches are disturbed by the Defeat Key while in place nor during insertion.
If the Defeat Key is inserted while the door is
closed, nothing happens. There are no false alarms during insertion.
The door may be opened without incident as the switch is always
in the secure state.
This same switch also may be labeled "Magnasphere." |
